Vince's roots to Chaffee County date back to the 1890's when his grandfather located to
the Upper Arkansas River Valley to work on the railroad. With a love for the area, his family
chose to settle and work in Salida, Colorado. After graduating from Salida High School,
Vince attended Adams State University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in
Industrial Arts. He returned to Salida and worked in retail management for ten years.
Seeking a career change, Vince joined the Salida Police Department in May of 1987. He
completed his law enforcement training at Camp George West in Golden, Colorado.
During his thirty plus years with the department, he worked as a patrolman, patrol sergeant,
and criminal investigator. Vince was promoted as the department's first full time detective,
worked in the elementary school as a D.A.R.E. instructor, served as evidence custodian in
charge of the evidence vault, and sat on various community protection teams and task
Vince and his wife Karin (a 4th generation Salidan) owned and operated Salida Shoeman,
the local shoe store for fourteen years. The store was a favorite among locals and gained
customers and friends from across the state. Vince was a volunteer on the board of
directors of Mountain River Credit Union for twelve years and served as Chairman of the
Board the last four years. He has been a member of the Salida Elks Club for thirty three
